The Obama administration has decided to lift the ban on offshore oil drilling over a month earlier than its original November 30th deadline.

On Tuesday, Department of the Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced that he was going to lift the ban on offshore oil drilling that has been in place since the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon and resulting disaster.  The ban has been declared illegal in the federal courts in the past but the injunction against it was suspended while the government appealed the decisions.  It was originally scheduled for Despite removing the ban, drilling probably won’t resume for a while as the companies hurry to comply with the new, heightened safety requirements published by the Interior Department.  The delay will be heightened by the lack of inspectors.
